<코리안 고스트>는 한국 현대사의 트라우마적인 사건들을 경험한 이정 가족의 내러티브를 통하여 그녀에게 포스트 메모리로 전해지는 기억에 대하여 시각적으로 기록한 프로젝트이다. 그녀는 한국전쟁과 분단을 경험한 그녀의 두 할머니들, 80년대 민주화 운동 시절 청년기를 지내고 독일에서 간첩과 독일의 재통일을 경험한 부모님의 내러티브를 통하여 한국전쟁 이후 3세대의 일원으로서 가족들의 기억이 그녀에게 어떻게 전승되는 가에 대하여 알아본다. 특히 그녀는 가족의 유산으로 내려오는 기억, 즉 포스트 메모리 중에서도 레드 콤플렉스에 중점을 둔 기억을 추려본다. 이 프로젝트를 통하여 그녀는 불편하면서도 가족이라는 개인사까지 침범한, 이 안 보이고 유령적인 기억들을 시각적 작업을 통하여 역사에 기록되지 않는 가족의 이야기를 담아내려 한다.

레드 콤플렉스는 이제 작가의 세대에는 강력하게 모습을 드러내고 있지는 않다. 그러나 완전히 사라졌다고 느꼈을 때에, 갑자기 눈앞에 나타나는 기억들이 존재하는데, 이러한 순간들은 마치 유령처럼 갑자기 나타났다가 사라지기도 한다. 이번 전시는 ’유령’의 모습으로 과거에서만 머무는 것이 아닌, 현재까지도 끊임없이 가족과 개인에게 영향을 주고 있는 그 기억의 이미지에 주목함으로써 소외되고 배제되었던 가족사의 서사를 기록하는 것에 그 주안점을 둔다.

[EN] Korean Ghost explores the so-called "Red Fear" in the history of Lijung's family, who lived through the events of Korea's traumatic past. Lijung references Marianne Hirsch's concept of “post-memory” and applies it artistically to her family history. From her perspective as a third-generation member since the Korean War, Lijung analyzes how the "Red Fear" memories have survived in her family throughout recent Korean history and broader world events and what meaning it continues to carry. Lijung works with interviews of her two grandmothers, who lived through the Korean War and the division of Korea, and of her second-generation parents, who were shaped by the country's democratization but also studied in Germany, experiencing the espionage incidents and German reunification. In Korea and her life in Berlin, the "Red Fear" is a post-memory phenomenon and is still the "ghost" in the family's history. The Korean Ghost Project documents this spirit, which is rooted in the past and lives on in the present.

[DE] Korean Ghost untersucht die sogenannte „Rote Angst" in der Geschichte Lijungs Familie, die die traumatische Geschichte Koreas erlebt hat. Lijung bezieht sich auch auf das Konzept der „Postmemory" von Marianne Hirsch und wendet es künstlerisch auf ihre Familiengeschichte an. Aus Lijungs Perspektive der dritten Generation nach dem Koreakrieg wird analysiert, wie die Erinnerungen an die „Rote Angst" in der Familie durch die neuere Geschichte Koreas und weitere Ereignisse in der Welt lebendig bleiben und welche Bedeutung sie immer noch haben. Lijung arbeitet mit Interviews mit ihren Großmüttern, die den Koreakrieg und die Teilung Koreas erlebten sowie mit ihren Eltern als Teil der zweiten Generation, die durch die Demokratisierung des Landes geprägt waren, aber auch in Deutschland studierten und dort Spionagevorfälle sowie die deutsche Wiedervereinigung erlebten. Sowohl in Korea als auch in ihrem Leben in Berlin ist die „Rote Angst" als Postmemory - Phänomen präsent und bis heute der „Geist" in der Geschichte der Familie. Das Korean Ghost Projekt zeichnet diesen Geist auf, der seine Wurzeln in der Vergangenheit hat und in der Gegenwart weiterlebt.
